From Fraud Prevention to Career Currency: How ServiceTitan Built a Credential Program the Trades Industry Trusts

The Organization

When your air conditioner dies in July, a pipe in your kitchen bursts, or you see something skittering behind your desk, the company you call to save the day is probably running on ServiceTitan.

It’s the all-in-one platform built specifically for the trades, helping HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and pest control businesses book jobs, dispatch technicians, send estimates, take payments, and manage inventory. With ~12,000 customers running day-to-day operations on ServiceTitan, it’s no surprise that an entire ecosystem of consultants has sprung up around the platform.

Senior Program Manager for Customer and Partner Relations Danielle Combs launched the company’s first certification to help customers tell real ServiceTitan experts from the self-proclaimed kind. But once people started copying ServiceTitan's logo and badge images to falsely claim certification, she had to find a platform that made credentials impossible to replicate.

Today, Danielle uses Accredible to issue verifiable digital credentials for three certification tracks: one for third-party providers, one for ServiceTitan’s customer-facing employees, and one for customers. And, coming soon, a fourth track for students learning their trade.

Since partnering with Accredible in 2023, ServiceTitan hasn’t logged a single case of credential fraud. And with over a 90% share rate, those same digital credentials are functioning as an organic marketing channel — driving more than 11 click-throughs to ServiceTitan's product demo page per week from prospective customers.

“Unfortunately, companies were replicating logos and badges even though they hadn’t actually been certified. And so we had to deal with cease-and-desist letters and reassure our client base that we’re taking measures to protect those assets.”

The Challenge

Most contractors know there’s room to improve their marketing and operations — they just don’t have the time to fix it. Every hour they spend wrestling with new software instead of repairing furnaces, unclogging drains, or treating termite infestations is an hour of lost revenue.

So when ‘experts’ started approaching customers with Facebook messages and industry forums, claiming they could get ServiceTitan up and running ASAP, it was tough for them to know who could get them where they wanted to be and who was selling an empty promise.

To help customers sift through the noise, Danielle stood up the company’s first product certification. “We wanted to certify third-party providers so customers felt confident that the people they were talking to knew the industry, how our software worked, and the best workflows to implement.”

She started issuing logos and digital badge assets to vendors who completed the training, but quickly realized she needed something more secure. “Unfortunately, companies were replicating logos and badges even though they hadn’t actually been certified,” Danielle recalls. “And so we had to deal with cease-and-desist letters and reassure our client base that we’re taking measures to protect those assets.”

At the same time, Danielle was considering rolling out an even more rigorous certification program for customer-facing employees and eventually developing a certification for ServiceTitan users themselves. Before pursuing those projects, she had to find a digital badging platform that would guarantee a credential’s legitimacy.

“We had to make sure our credentials were trustworthy. I mean, that was the whole purpose. It was very important to us that we find a way to make them verifiable.”

The Solution

“Being able to customize when we send badges versus digital credentials through Accredible has made the final certification feel very official, like a big celebration moment, which encourages learners to publicly share their success.”

A Partner With a Track Record

Danielle started her research laser-focused on finding a platform that had worked with top institutions and enterprise companies. “Where we were at as a company and where we wanted to take these programs, we just weren’t in a position to give this opportunity to a startup. We needed a partner who had been in the trenches and knew how to help us grow.”

The digital credentialing platform also had to integrate seamlessly with ServiceTitan’s current LMS, so when a partner, user, or employee completed their training, they’d receive their credential right away. As Danielle puts it, “Our education team is lean, and my time is better spent on strategic priorities than issuing a credential every morning.”

Accredible came up again and again, checking off every requirement on her list. Beyond brand recognition and supported integrations, Danielle appreciated how seriously Accredible took company branding. She, alongside the digital content team, could customize everything from the look of credential landing pages and their URLs to the badges themselves. Plus, learners could share credentials on their website or LinkedIn profile and newsfeed in a few clicks.

“Another really big perk,” Danielle points out, “was the opportunity to include a referral link on our certifications, so new customers (or learners) could find us.” With the right partner locked in, Danielle got to work.

Making Credentials Feel Like a Big Accomplishment

Danielle already had a wealth of learning resources and an LMS that made it easy to deliver them. What she had to do now was figure out which parts of the learning process warranted a lighter-weight badge versus a verifiable and shareable digital credential.

From the start, Danielle made lessons optional: “If someone already knows how to do something, we shouldn’t force them to watch videos or read our content.” It lowers the barrier to entry and saves the learner time.

But it also means she has to test learners often to confirm they understand the material and have the skills to level up their business operations or advise customers appropriately. “If you log in and see a bunch of tests you need to take, you’re going to feel overwhelmed,” she explains. So she made assessments prescriptive — and fun.

“I broke them down into three levels, so learners earn Accredible badges as they progress through the coursework. It keeps them motivated,” she notes. “They also see a “TitanAdvisor score” in their ServiceTitan account, which tells them how well their company is using the system. It says things like, ‘If you do xyz course, you’ll get more out of ServiceTitan.’”

Individuals receive an Accredible digital credential only after they complete the entire certification. “Being able to customize when we send badges versus digital credentials through Accredible has made the final certification feel very official, like a big celebration moment, which encourages learners to publicly share their success,” she outlines.

The credentials themselves reflect how much effort it takes to earn a certification, with metadata that describes exactly what a person learned, including best practices (in the trades, not just in reference to ServiceTitan’s software), specific platform features, and real-life scenarios they’ve thought through.

That investment in rigor pays off well beyond the credential itself. Certified users are 92% more likely to get their support issue resolved on the first call, and ServiceTitan sees a 35% drop in support tickets from users in the 30 days after they're certified. The certification doesn't just prove what someone knows. It changes how confidently they use the platform day to day.

Making Credentials Feel Like Career Currency

Danielle inherently understood that with every credential share, the company, its platform, and the people who had mastered it could get in front of new audiences. To make the most of that free advertising, she positioned her programs as industry-leading certifications, a no-brainer for anyone in the trades to pursue.

“We treat every certification — whether it’s for an entry-level CSR or dispatcher or for an administrator — as a real career milestone, not just a participation badge,” she shares. “We talk about it like it’s something that should be included on a resume, on LinkedIn, not just some feather in their cap.”

That messaging starts with the digital credential delivery email. In it, learners are taught how to share their credentials and the professional benefits of doing so. Plus, they have a chance to win free swag. Who could turn that down?

“If a learner can prove via screenshot or link to their shared credential, they get to pick a mug, a backpack, or other gear that’s specific to their certification from our swag store. They love it, and it’s another way for them to show off their credentials — extra marketing for us,” says Danielle.

That incentive has worked wonders. ServiceTitan’s certification share rates have stayed exceptionally high, hovering between 90% and 94% since partnering with Accredible in 2023.

“Sharing is so organic at this point that we don’t even have to prove to our executive team that our programs are working,” she highlights. “They see experts in the trades sharing their credentials on LinkedIn, Facebook, everywhere. The great thing is execs like and comment on those posts, so our engagement doubles.”

Her strategy doesn’t even stop there. During ServiceTitan’s annual conference, Danielle awards each user who’s earned the company’s highest-level Administrator certification with a bright blue varsity jacket — the certification logo and the learner’s last name stitched on the back.

As Admins earn additional certifications, they’re awarded new patches they can add to their jacket, just like they would add another sport to a letterman’s jacket. “It’s something personal to them that they get to keep. Wearing it at the conference year after year with more patches tacked on gets other people interested in the courses we offer,” Danielle says.

Making Credentials a Demand Gen Engine

The ServiceTitan team originally viewed the credential program as a learning expense — something that might support customer growth and retention in the long run. It became something else entirely.

Danielle shared, “I was absolutely amazed at the number of click-throughs we get on credential referral links to our prospect demo site. That was a major aha moment for me and my brand team.”

Today, shared credentials drive 11+ click-throughs to ServiceTitan’s platform demo page every week. “We get real deals and sales from this,” Danielle emphasizes.

It’s working so well that she and the marketing team are using credentials to market other non-sales initiatives. For example, some ServiceTitan badges link out to information about the Torch Network, a customer advocacy program in which top users (Torchbearers) help guide other customers through the platform.

“It’s really neat that Accredible is set up such that if a person has a credential, issuing them a badge for something else comes at no cost to you, but acts as another marketing opportunity,” Danielle says.

The Results

“I don’t see Accredible as a vendor. They’re an amazing partner and an extension of my team. We want our customers to achieve the extraordinary, and the only way we can do that is by setting a very high bar. We use the best of the best.”

With More Credentials to Come

If you can believe it, Danielle hasn’t even launched her biggest credentialing project yet.

In Summer 2026, ServiceTitan is introducing its first-ever global certifications for non-users and non-partners, an effort to help more students interested in entering the trades learn to use technology that supports their work before they land their first job. They’re partnering with several trade schools and All Within My Hands, Metallica’s Foundation, to do it.

A program of that size and caliber requires a different learning infrastructure. When Danielle and her team went looking for a more robust LMS, they had one steadfast rule: it had to be on Accredible’s list of preferred partners.

“I like to say that proper prior planning prevents perplexing problems,” says Danielle. “You really truly have to think through the details and know what you’re doing.” It’s why she continues to count on Accredible as her programs expand.
